"Jam" Marmalade the cat has gotten in a "jam" up a tree, and is rescued by the people of Samaritan House. When one young resident has trouble pronouncing Marmalade (named after the cat’s coloring), she resorts to "Jam" for short. The name stuck, and now Jam is a permanent member of the mission.
