I really enjoyed Marilyn Blackaby's honesty about her good times and bad times, the things she did well and the regrets she has. It felt as though I was being mentored by someone who has "been there and done that." Her testimony and walk of faith left me feeling uplifted and encouraged, so much so that I passed the book on to my cousin to read.
I am the type of person that at any one time has 10+/- books 1/3 of the way read but I read this book all the way through - That says a lot!! I think it is even worth a re-read! | | | | A book I'd recommend... Jul 28, 2009 |
Experiencing God Around the Kitchen Table is a candid picture of some of Mrs. Blackaby's life experiences and her testimony of ministry as a pastors wife, mother, missionary and speaker. God has clearly proven himself faithful to this woman and her family, regardless of the many struggles they faced. Backaby challenges the reader to develop a strong relationship with the Lord, which in turn will help them succeed as wives and mothers as they allow Him to guide them.
This book also gives examples of how we can share with and mentor others that God places in our paths. Hence the title, `around the kitchen table.' Blackaby encourages to lay aside our own agenda's and press on to do what God has appointed us do. When we do that, we find joy in living as we experience His power and blessing.
Positive Elements: I enjoyed how this book was peppered with short biographies of women thorough out history that experienced a close walk with God.
I also appreciated how Blackaby was honest about the struggle she faced to lay down her dream of becoming an overseas missionary, only to be able to look back and see the Lord had given her so much more than she ever thought or imagined.

This book gives excellent examples of how we can share our blessings and mentor others as we ourselves trust God and walk in a daily relationship with our Lord. We get so busy with every day life and this truly helps us see that when we stop and get down to what God has appointed us to do, that where He leads us is exactly where He knows is best for us and helps us to function best where He has placed us.
