..what's behind these severely misrepresenting pamphlets. Harvest House publishes several pamphlets with almost identical formats..."Roman Catholicism: What you need to know".."Islam: What you need to know".."Mormonism: What you need to know".."Intelligent Design: what you need to know", etc. These pamphlets are then distributed through local conduits, including the 1300+ fundamentalist church network of "Calvary Chapels", which many times will sticker their own name onto the pamphlet. Harvest House has selected severely disgruntled former members of religions/denominations, and then allows them to offer "representation" of their former Faiths. Within the pamphlet, after getting a severe misrepresentation of the religion discussed, the reader then is (sadly) encouraged to explore more of the author's writings. With the Mormon pamphlet, it's former Mormon Ed Decker, who apparently has the same vitriol against his former Faith as former Catholic (and Harvest House pamphlet author) James G. McCarthy has against Catholics.
I am a Catholic who just recently was invited to a Calvary Chapel and was shocked to see that someone was attempting to represent the Catholic (or any) Faith in a pamphlet, let alone attempting to misrepresent it so much as McCarthy does. I bought four of the different pamphlets they had, and am slightly relieved after reviewing the Mormon and Islam pamphlets that Harvest House seems to simply be painting themselves as a foolish organization, by choosing laughable critics such as Ed Decker and James McCarthy. But as a warning, the Calvary Chapel/Harvest House method of isolating their members/readers from comparative argument can function as the psychological abuser/victim model. I just now see on the web that in Christianity Today[May 2006] "Unaccountable at Calvary Chapel", Calvary Chapel has serious accountability issues,..all the while they push these accusatory publications. I do pray for those that may be misled by these pamphlets...doesn't seem too Christ-like.

If you are looking to have a handy reference on this subject, look no further.
Why stop at mormons, why not redicule Christ himself Dec 14, 2003
Give me a break people. Anybody that sides with Decker is obviously biased and has not experience anything themselves regarding the things he rights. Let's get real. People that like Decker are not athiests or agnostics, they go to protestant churches. How these people can judge an entire religion is beyond me. Why they would do so publicly is another mystery. My only thought is they are definitely closeminded and overpowered by Satan. Any Christian would speak with love. While the LDS church does state plainly that they are the True and living Church of Jesus Christ, they also state that men may worship how they choose. See Articles of Faith. Also, any educated Latter Day Saint will tell you that protestant churches have pieces of the truth. We don't say they are wrong and not Christian. It was Mark Twain that said, "Better to be thought a fool than to speak and erase all doubt." Something for you "mormons aren't christian"-people to think about next time you want to open your mouth.

It's unfortunate that this site's rating system obliges me to give this book even one star.
Ed Decker is a charlatan. There is no other way of putting it. He has made a career of sensationalizing and distorting the faith of the Latter-day Saints, and it's unspeakably sad that he evidently continues to succeed at his chosen career, despite the fact that even many of his fellow anti-Mormons are appalled by his tendency to, shall we say, embroider the truth. Jerald and Sandra Tanner and the late Wally Tope are among the committed critics of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who have taken time out of their busy anti-Mormon schedules to write harsh critiques of Ed Decker and his works. The "Christian" bookstore in my home town refuses to carry anything by Mr. Decker. When I asked the owner why, he replied that it was because "Mr. Decker seems to have a hard time telling the truth." I couldn't have said it better myself.
To those who value fair play, I would recommend the short booklet "Latter-day Christianity," which gives non-proselytizing Mormon answers to ten frequently asked questions. Heck, there are even better anti-Mormon books I could recommend. (There's almost nothing worse than a Decker book.) But I won't.

This pamphlet gives you a quick look at why Mormons are not Christians and how their basic doctrines (such as all men can become gods and that God has multiple wives in heaven) go against everything the Bible says. It even gives great questions to ask missionaries when they come knocking that will force them to answer truthfully about their cult. This is a must read for any Christian.
