Item Description...
Product Description The Scofield Study Bible occupies a unique place in the history of modern Christianity--the first publication to combine readily accessible study aids with the text of Scripture, putting together in one place everything readers need to explore and understand the Bible. Large numbers of Christians have long recognized these virtues and have continually chosen Scofield Study Bible in their various editions. Indeed, since it first appeared in 1909, the Scofield has sold millions of copies. To celebrate its one hundredth anniversary, Oxford is proud to announce a special Centennial Edition, in a limited-edition binding, on sale only for the year 2009. Available in five editions--King James Version, New King James Version, New International Version, New American Standard Bible, and Holman Christian Standard Bible-each volume will include a presentation page for gift giving, a special essay on the history and influence of the Scofield Bible written by Paul Karleen, a full-color map section, and an attractive Pacific Duvelle binding. Most important, these volumes boast the features that have made the Scofield so popular for generations of Bible students, including cross references that link topics and words together, introductions to the various books of the Bible, a superb system of chain references, the concordance, study notes, charts and diagrams, a subject and a proper name index, and much more. For one hundred years, the Scofield Study Bible has been an indispensable aid, both as an introduction for the novice and as a companion for a lifetime of study, offering assistance on every page, whether for simple research or deep reflection. This new Centennial Edition marks this century-long tradition. It will be a meaningful gift for everyone who wants to learn more about the word of God.

 | Scofield HCSB (Leather?) Centennial Bible Jul 3, 2009 |
| I have used the Scofield Study System from Oxford Press for at least 30 years,my first one was the Old Scofield KJV with a wonderful butter-soft premium Cowhide Leather binding.Still my favorite Bible for 'feel' and quality workmanship.(30 years old!)Over the years I have been able to acquire the Scofield thru the emergence of new translations (versions);NASB,NIV,NIV,ESV and now the HCSB.Needless to say, imho,Scofield provides one great system of study from a pre-millennial,dispensational point of interpretation. Therefore i have only the highest praise for this study Bible format with it's highly informational notes and chain references. I have noticed that the last two versions i have purchased were manufactured in Korea.I have other books bound in Korea that are masterpieces of the bookbinding art, great workmanship and illustrations. That being said, the last two Scofields i have bought were somewhat less than perfect. For example, the ESV Leather was very nice(not soft but nice) but after a mere two months, the end paper started coming un-glued.Fixable,yes,but a bit disappointing. This HCSB comes in something listed as Leather Binding on this site, but read the fine print,it is actually what is being called "Pacific Duvelle".If this is Leather methinks it is a"hybrid"animal of some sort, cuz it has none of the leathery smell a good new Bible has out of the box and it looks suspiciously like very high quality vinyl to me.Tried to google a Pacific Duvelle and could not seem to find any specs on just what it is.I seriously doubt it is any kind of animal hide.It IS attractive and appears to be durable, though quite a bit stiffer than bond leather.Frankly, for another few dollars i would recommend the Genuine Leather when and if it becomes available. As for the contents? 5 star! The HCSB is a very accurate and readable translation offering an abundace of textual footnotes.Great Bible, this, just not quite what i had in mind when i ordered Leather.Thank you.
