Hugh Elgin grew up living on the gang-infested streets of East Harlem in NYC during the 40's and 50's. He attended a truant school with the late heavy weight-boxing champion, Floyd Patterson. At 15, he spent time in Riker's Island Penitentiary. He was diagnosed bipolar with severe learning disorders. His life wasn't lived in a normal fashion. After many marriages, jobs, and therapists, he met a counselor, the Counselor, who had all the answers. Instead of medication, he prescribed a daily dose of His love and His Holy Spirit, allowing him to live a victorious life. Through Hugh's experiences and words of hard-earned wisdom, you will find practical strategies for overcoming any adversity. For 23 years he has ministered to the incarcerated and homeless He and his wife, Shirley, minister together in Christian music, poetry, and comedy. They entertain for senior citizens groups in churches, nursing homes, and retirement centers. Hugh has authored a joke book, which is unique in that all the jokes are poetized. He couldn't call it a Joke Book, nor could he name it a Poem Book. He did the only logical thing; he titled it Book. Hugh and Shirley currently reside in Kentucky.

This moving story is an inspiration to all who read it, no matter what your struggle might be, and we all have struggles. Mr Elgin has done a wonderful job showing us his heart and in turn, our own. It is so very well written and touching you'll keep reading till the end. You won't be sorry you picked it up.
