 | EXCELLENT Counseling Resource Nov 30, 2009 |
| What if scripture was totally sufficent and 1 Cor 10:12-14 were mentioned in every counseling session? These are the types of hope filled moments in this classic biblical counseling booklet. I hand them out at at every pre-counseling/counseling session I have. Many times, this booklet has given people back their time in reminding them of the gospel. I highly recommend it. | | | | Helpful and to the point Feb 9, 2009 |
| This little book (more like a pamphlet) is a great resource that is short and to the point. Adams uses 1 Corinthians 10:13 as the basis. A great resource to give to someone who is going through hard times or to quickly brush up on how to biblically view trials. This book gives hope to those who are hurting, pointing them to Christ. | | | | Great resource! Dec 1, 2008 |
| This small pamphlet is wonderful. A great resource for those counseling others in their struggles but also great encouragement to give to those who feel defeated. Based primarily on I Cor. 10:13, it gives solid truth yet without condemnation. I highly recommend this and it's only 30 pages! | | | | A great big dose of truth in a small package. Sep 13, 2007 |
This handy booklet from the prolific pen of Jay Adams has become an essential tool for the biblical counselor. No matter what your counselee's presentation problem, the truth in this booklet will speak to it and provide a solid foundation upon which to build future sessions.
"Christ and Your Problems" calls the reader, very early in the counseling process, out of his or her circumstances and back to the essential truth of Scripture to focus on the Lord who ordains and rules over the circumstances. Adams does so by unpacking the rich promises in the single verse of 1 Corinthians 10:13 -- "No trial has overtaken you except such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tested beyond what you are able, but with the trial will also make a way of escape that you may be able to bear it."
In this commonly quoted verse, Adams finds and expounds four key promises:
1. Your counselee's problem is not unique. Rather, it is common to man. 2. God is faithful. He has our best interests in mind no matter how bad things may seem. 3. God will not allow His children to be tried beyond their ability to bear up under it. 4. God will provide a Christ-honoring way of escape from every trial.
Armed with these truths, the counselee is able to see his problems with fresh eyes, knowing that the sovereign Lord has, in fact, prepared this trial for the counselee's good and God's own glory. I have used this booklet firsthand (including as a counselee myself), and would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to do more effective counseling, or who is struggling to come to grips with any significant spiritual trial. | | | Write your own review about Christ and Your Problems
