Item Description... This is not a book for normal people to learn how to handle difficult people¿there is no such thing. This is a book about how imperfect people can pursue community with other imperfect people.
Normal? Who¿s Normal? Not you, that¿s for sure! No one you¿ve ever met, either. None of us are normal according to God¿s definition, and the closer we get to each other, the plainer that becomes.
Yet for all our quirks, sins, and jagged edges, we need each other. Community is more than just a word¿it is one of our most fundamental requirements. So how do flawed, abnormal people such as ourselves master the forces that can drive us apart and come together in the life-changing relationships God designed us for?
In Everybody¿s Normal Till You Get to Know Them, teacher and best-selling author John Ortberg zooms in on the things that make community tick. You¿ll get a thought-provoking look at God¿s heart, at others, and at yourself. Even better, you¿ll gain wisdom and tools for drawing closer to others in powerful, impactful ways. With humor, insight, and a gift for storytelling, Ortberg shows how community pays tremendous dividends in happiness, health, support, and growth. It¿s where all of us weird, unwieldy people encounter God¿s love in tangible ways and discover the transforming power of being loved, accepted, and valued just the way we are.
The principles and discussion questions in this book are down-to-earth. They¿re for real people living in a real world, and are intended to help us count the practical cost of relationship and then pay it¿because in all the rewards and struggles of community, we¿re investing in something beyond our comprehension. You could call it heaven. You could call it home. It¿s the place where all of us are headed, all of us belong, and all of us will be normal at last.

| John Ortberg, in my opinion is a master at taking the obvious and turning it in such a way that it becomes real. He has taken areas in our lives that we sometimes don't wish to talk about and brought them out in the open. You will not be disappointed in this book if you have read any of his other books. I have read several and each one is just as good as the others. His style is easy to read and yet insightful. John, write more books... you're doing great.. | | | | Awesome book Feb 4, 2007 |
| This is one of the best books I have read in years. I checked it out of the libary and liked it so much, I bought my own copy to have. John Ortberg has a wonderful way of relating biblical issues to our everyday lives. The insights in this book can be life changing and is a must read for every Christian. | | | | Many Pearls -- of Wisdom Feb 1, 2007 |
| The book is an excellent example of the power of Self-Disclosure which Sidney Jouard introduced to the therapeutic community several years ago. This is an excellent book by which both those who perceive themselves as marching to the beat of a different drummer, and those who perceive they are observing the marchers, may find common ground -- and trust. | | | | Everybody's Normal Til You Get to Know Them Jan 11, 2007 |
| Wow! This book was presented to all the leaders in my church because it makes you take a look at others in light of yourself. One of the most profound statements in the book is, "Lack of confrontation breeds resentment," paraphrased. It has been a positive impact on me, my pastor and our congregation in more effectively communicating with one another. I give it the highest positive rating. | | | | Everybody's Normal Till You Get to Know Them Jan 9, 2007 |
| This was one of the best books I have ever read. It isn't one you can pick up and read from cover to cover in a day. I read a chapter and then I spent the rest of the day to reflect on how my life is like this and how to improve. It has really made a difference in my understanding of people and God's love for us. | | | Write your own review about Everybodys Normal Till You Get To Know Them
