About the Author
Dr. Mary Manz Simon has built a career out of carpools and soccer games. Under the umbrella of practical parenting advice, her books have sold more than two million copies and are available in nine languages, her daily radio program is heard on 200+ stations, and her magazine articles and national convention presentations reach thousands more each year.
"I think being a parent is terrific," Dr. Mary Manz-Simon says. "Life in the Mommy Zone can be exhausting, discouraging, and challenging, but there's nothing that compares to helping a baby grow up to become a hopeful, visionary, contributing member of society. Of course, that happens only after cheering on the sidelines of countless T-ball games and having numerous discussions on the value of making a bed."
It's her advice on these everyday issues that resonate with parents, teachers, and all others who care about children. After earning bachelor's, master's, and doctor's degrees in education, she entered the world of parenting by giving birth to three children in four years. This real-life experience, coupled with her significant academic credentials, speaks volumes to readers and listeners.
"Parents today don't have the built-in support systems of previous generations," she says. "That's why it's so important to find peer parents who share your values, veteran parents who can help you look down the road, and experts who can help you can see how everything fits together."

 | Build confidence in early readers while teaching biblical truths Nov 28, 2009 |
Part of the "Hear Me Read" series, this title provides a retelling of the Tower of Babel (found in Genesis 11:1-9) using only twenty-four words. The back cover lists all vocabulary words necessary to read the book.
In the story the people believe themselves to be great. To show their superiority, they decide to build a giant tower. Then everyone will know they are great. God watches the people then confuses their language. Instead of proclaiming their own greatness, all the people say "Jibber jabber!"
Dennis Jones illustrated this volume. His drawings feature bold outlines, high contrast and expressive characters. Each page is filled with color.
What I Like: The illustrations are great. They offer a style not common in recent Christian children's publications. I also like the word list provided on the back cover. This volume is a wonderful choice for beginning readers, not only because of the limited vocabulary, but also because of the repetition that reinforces reading confidence.
What I Dislike: The story seems incomplete. There is no clear explanation of why God confused the languages or how doing so accomplished glory for Himself. Furthermore, the book doesn't offer any indication of why this story is relevant to us today.
Overall Rating: Good.
