 | "Perfect For Toddlers and Pre-schoolers" Jan 19, 2008 |
Noah's Wild Adventure is a board book with googly eyes. The googly eyes are on the giraffe, monkey, mouse, and other animals. The brightly-colored illustrations are perfect for catching the attention of little ones. Also, the illustrations are made with round shapes and curved lines rather than harsh, straight lines. There are large animals and small creatures, like bugs. The illustrations are great. The words are written in a sing-song manner. There is no denominal slant. Isaac: "Rurrrr" He makes elephant sounds, using his arm as a trunk. He points to the zebra, but he does not know what sound they make. "Rainbows. Daddy said that they are in the sky." "Momma, What is that?" He points to the foxes. The wonderful thing about Noah's Wild Adventure is that it tells of a story that Isaac likes hearing, but he also likes just looking at the illustrations. This book has gone everywhere with us for the last three days. It even kept him busy during his brother's basketball game. He likes shaking his head and rolling his eyes like the googly eyes. This book is perfect for toddlers and pre-schoolers.

Matt Mitter and Warner McGee team up again for Noah's Wild Adventure: a fun googly eyes book. Each picture features one animal with big googly eyes. The classic story is told, from building the ark to the rainbow and God's promise, through rhyming poems. The book divides the story into five parts, providing subtitles and Biblical references for each.
Warner McGee does a fantastic job with the illustrations. The colors are vivid and playful; the depictions detailed and unique.
What I Like: My kids love this book! The googly eyes are definitely a hit, but they also love the story. I love the bright colors that fill each page. Also, despite thinner pages, this is a very sturdy book. Great for rough and tumble boys like mine.
What I Dislike: The rhyming does not always flow and the story is a little off. There is no explanation of why God is sending a flood. Also, the author spends one whole page talking about the panda crying from fear. It seemed an odd addition considering the short length of this book (just 12 pages).
Age Appeal: 4-8, according to the publisher, but I think even infants would enjoy this book.
Overall Rating: Upper side of Good.
