Item Description... The little wooden people called Wemmicks scurry about their days doing what they always do: sticking gold stars on the pretty and talented Wemmicks or gray dots on those who make mistakes. But now the stickering is all the more important. The Festival is at hand. That means that the envied Most Stars Award and the dreaded Most Dots Award are about to be given out. And poor Punchinello is sure to be a shoo-in for the Most Dots.
But thanks to a new friend, he is about to learn a very important lesson that kids of all ages need to hear: no matter how others judge their worth, God cherishes each of them just as they are.
Now this award-winning story, drawn from the classic bestseller, comes to life in this fully animated video with songs for your kids to sing along with. They'll love it because it's so much fun. You'll love it because of the eternal truth it teaches them: You Are Precious in His Sight.
Additional Information This DVD is based on Christian author Max Lucado's children's book series, -The Wemmicks. The Wemmicks, live wooden figurines whittled by a God-like woodcarver, have created a ranking system amongst themselves. Those who excel physically are given stars to display, while so-called lesser Wemmicks receive a simple dot. Depressed at his inability to earn stars, one Wemmick pays a visit to the woodcarver himself, who offers some sage Christian advice. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide

 | Elegant Message Dec 22, 2005 |
| Rented this movie because I am a big fan of the book by the same title. The book is elegant in it's simple message. The movie had to expand for entertainment value, and did a fairly good job at it. You Are Special is the first in the Wemmicks series. The main character Punchinello, acts as the avatar of self-depreciation, always accepting blame from others and always seeking acceptance from others. Wemmicks, wooden people living in a small village, show their admiration and disapproval to other Wemmicks by handing out Stars (good) and Dots (bad). Wemmicks brag about how many stars they have and ridicule those with lots of dots, a nice allegory of human society. Punch has more dots than any other Wemmick. Punch then meets a girl with no stickers on her, neither stars nor dots. Punch asks how this is possible that the don't stick to her. Her secret is that every day she visits the woodcarver on the hill. Eli, the giant woodcarver, made all the Wemmicks (i.e. God). Eli talks with Lucia and tells her how special she is, therefor what other people think (by the stickers), and fall off of her. Punch is scared to visit Eli the first time, but Eli reassures Punch that he didn't make any mistakes when he was created and it doesn't matter what other people think. It is only then when the stickers begin to fall off. My 5 year old really liked the story, and after a little discussion with him, I'm confident he understood the concept. A very important lesson. The extras on the DVD include a puzzle, a making of, and a few previews. | | | | Great story but confusion in ordering Sep 5, 2005 |
| This a great story dvd for children and adults. I think some of the other reviewers had the same problem I did. I ordered from another seller in the new and used section and I received the DVD Read & Sing Along version which is a story book version that is a little lower production value and not animated just snapshots. I kept mine because I think it will good for when my kids are old enough to read but I plan to reorder an animated version. | | | | Great for character education Jun 23, 2005 |
| I am a teacher and have found that showing this video after reading and discussing the book has been beneficial in helping my students not only accept those with learning difficulties, or special needs, but also to accept themselves for their own wonderful merits. The symbolism is apparent to my sixth graders, leading to many eye-opening discussions in class. | | | | Great story, but beware... May 20, 2004 |
| This is a great story. My two kids can't get enough of it. The DVD is well done, but I do have a problem with one aspect of it. The running time says it's approximately 60 minutes long, which is VERY deceptive. The actual story is barely over 20 minutes long. They included every feature in the entire DVD into the running time, several of which are a waste. The story is excellent and the production quality is as well, but know that you're getting a story shorter than an average Veggie Tales. I'd still get it, but know what you're buying. | | | | Fantastic story. Jan 26, 2004 |
| The lady that stated it's hard to hear must need a hearing aid. This is a great story and fantastic for all children. It's sad some people don't know how to look up film's length specifications before watching the film. How can you expect a film to be longer than it is when it clearly states the running time on it? | | | Write your own review about Wemmicks/You Are Special
