Frank Peretti kicked open the doors that all of us Christian novelists are passing through today. We owe him a huge debt. Jerry B. Jenkins Author, the Left Behind Series
It all begins in Bacon’s Corner, a tiny farming community far from the interstate . . . An attempted murder, a case of mistaken—or is it covered up?—identity, and a ruthless lawsuit against a struggling Christian school. Sally Beth Roe, a young loner, a burnout, a kind of “leftover hippie,” finds herself caught in the middle of these bizarre events, fleeing for her life while trying to recall her dark past.
Across a vast panorama of heart-stopping action, Sally Roe’s journey is a penetrating portrayal of our times, a reflection of our wanderings, and a vivid reminder of the redemptive power of the Cross. The intensity of this best-selling novel comes alive when read by author Frank Peretti. The abridged audio recording on three CDs includes sound effects and music that bring to life all the excitement and intrigue of Frank Peretti’s beloved novel Piercing the Darkness.

Peretti's demon followup to This Present Darkness starts better, but doesn't finish as well. Peretti does a good job of starting three separate plot lines (Christian father child abuse bureaucratic overreach, Christian school child abuse/spanking lawsuit, and mysterious burned-out hippie/suicide/runaway) and moving them forward. But he has trouble re-weaving them at the end. Still, it made me keep reading late into the night to finish it.
But the imagery of real physical demons and angels having their impact on humans due to their sin and/or walk with God is striking and convicting. These two books make me realize how important daily, near-constant prayer is.
Fantastic sequel ... Aug 7, 2008
Piercing the Darkness is a wonderful follow-up to This Present Darkness. This was suspenseful, well written and again, an eye-opener to the spiritual war going on around us and the absolute power of prayer. Whenever I see or hear of something 'bad' going on, I get this visual picture in my mind of a demon sitting on someone's shoulder harrassing them or worse, sticking their finger in their head, swirling it around and confusing them. This is not a gory book - it's an excellent read. My second favorite Peretti book (This present darkness is my first).
One of the best fiction books I've read! Jul 12, 2008
This book is one of the most exciting books I've read. Frank Peretti knows how to paint a picture to make it so visually easy to see what you are reading.
I bought this book when I was a pretty new Christian and had no idea really what spirtual warfare was. He changed my perspective forever with this book. Now, when I feel down or tired, I picture that spirit trying to keep my from reading my bible or praying.
He completely changed my world with this book with the understanding of spirits and angels.
It's an awesome story that depicts the human struggle going on in a small town while at the same time telling you the spirtual story. The unseen fight and agendas of our enemy.
I am currently reading this book outloud to my 12 year old son, he can hardly wait for the next night to find out what happens. This book opened my eyes to the real war going on and I want to make sure my son also understands the spirtual battle being fought on his behalf.
Excellent book, would recommend it as a gift or for a great read for yourself! A++++++++++++
Spiritual Warfare Apr 29, 2008
This book was incredible! It took up where "This Present Darkness" left off. There was much food for thought within the pages. Are other people manipulating my thinking? How can Satan get a foothold in our thoughts? Peretti is a master storyteller and captures the imagination with the twists in the storyline. It is a great read. Second as good as the first Apr 20, 2008
Peretti did it again. He was able to repeat the same awe of the spiritual world that he produced in This Present Darkness. Years later I'm still able to visualize the battles of good and evil surrounding our lives.
