Reviews - What do our customers think?
Read this book!  Feb 2, 2007
While I enjoyed Frank Peretti's first thriller, "This Present Darkness," I didn't think it was an earth-shattering novel. It was the kind of story that you could put down for several times without experiencing major angst over wanting to know what happens next. Not so with "Piercing the Darkness." Frank seemed to get his mojo going in this one. The plot is gripping and involving. The characters are real, especially Sally Roe. The story carries the conviction of great moral truth. The transitional redemption of the main character is beautiful to witness. Although some of Frank Peretti's theological interpretations are open to debate, he still came up with an interesting idea in the whole "spiritual warfare" angle. To be honest, though, the sections of the story dealing with the battle between the angels and demons were the weakest. Where the story truly shines is in the human side of the plot. Many new characters are introduced, and a few reintroduced from "This Present Darkness." Also, the villains are particularly good in "Piercing the Darkness." I mean, what better name could a bad guy have than "Khull"? Truly interesting characters and a rip-roaring plot to go along with it. Definitely recommended.

Great spiritual warfare novel!  Jan 3, 2007
Fantastic novel focusing on the aspect of how prayer directly affects our lives through the unseen spiritual dimension. Angels and demons are constantly at battle for our minds and our souls. This novel looks at how the angels can only defeat the demons through the strength of our prayers and our faith in the Lord. I highly recommend reading it. It also ties in well with its predecessor novel This Present Darkness.

Piercing the Darkness: Angels are REAL   Jan 2, 2007
As with the book before this- This Present Darkness, I was completely spellbound. I loved this book. If ever there were any doubts about the existance of angels, this should make it very clear that they do exist, and we should thank God for them. The book slowly pulled me in, but just a couple of pages into it and I was glad to see the familiar characters from Frank Peretti's last story. I was drawn to the plight of the girl, who seemed to be mentally handicapped in some way, but was really just hounded by the demons who have followed her through life. In the end, she conquers the demons with the help of Angels through Gods guidance. It was very spiritually uplifting and definately recommended to all those who like the writings of Frank Peretti.

My All-Time Favorite Novel  Nov 30, 2006
I heard of Peretti's book "This Present Darkness", but I read this sequel first. I put sequel in quotes; while there are many of the same angels as in the previous novel, and some of the same characters, one does not need to read them in order to appreciate them.

The premise of both this novel and its predecessor is the reality of spiritual warfare. C. Robert Nixon's review from the Library Journal seemed condescending to this approach, but the concept of spiritual warfare is a Biblical concept. Also, while the angels and demons influence the activities, they are not in control of what the people do.

One difference between this book and "This Present Darkness" is that the first book had more interesting demons than human villains, while this one does a better job with the human villains. I also find some hints in the book that may be skimmed over, so you are surprised at the right time.

My favorite part of the story was the conversation between fired police officer Ben Cole and out-of-town journalist Marshall Hogan, about how moles have a different perspective than we do, not recognizing fences.

Thinking back, I can sense a little bit of pessimism, which is expanded in Peretti's later novels. However, it is exciting, keeping you turning the pages while sitting at the edge of your seat.
