Book Description Some people seem to get more than their share of success and fulfillment, while others suffer repeated failure and frustration. Why is this so?
With over 200,000 copies sold, Blessing or Curse has given thousands of believers a biblical understanding of two forces at work in every life: blessings and curses. Now with a new introduction by the author and a chapter-by-chapter study guide, this tenth-anniversary edition will enable many more to enjoy the benefits of God's blessings and protect themselves from curses that may have originated in a previous generation.
A curse, says Prince, is not an obsolete Old Testament concept. He draws on real-life experiences of believers-including himself-who realized that successions of misfortunes were not God's doing, or even happenstance, but resulted from a curse. The author helps readers determine if they could be under a curse, explores the many causes of a curse, and offers clear direction for applying God's remedy.

This book is an easy and quick read (that's why the 2 stars). I read it in two days, however, Derek Prince's interpretation of scripture in not completely on the mark. I would not recommend this to anyone.
what God wants is for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of Jesus Jun 14, 2006
Ughh. Typical word-faith blessing/curse theology. Let me give a few citations of this book, and then what the bible teaches.
On page 45 a list of seven "curses" includes chronic sickness and financial insufficiency. It's interesting that Paul doesn't tell Timothy that he's under a curse, but rather "take a little wine for your stomach ills so frequently". It's also important to note that Prince focuses on Old Testament examples rather than New Testament examples, in which the financially destitute would include most of the early church; Paul starved on occasion, silver and gold had Peter none, and the Son of Man had no place to lay his head. Our standing with God isn't determined by how fincancially prosperous we are (Mormons would all be in heaven and true missionaries would burn in flames according to that theology) but rather we are measured by faith and stand before God, not before the carnal indicators of man.
As far the necessary "tithe" teaching in this book; well, that's the reason we shouldn't let today's teachers go back to the old testament to pick out which laws apply to new covenant believers and add curses/blessings and which ones don't. On page 102 Prince writes "God had ordained that Israel should set aside for Him the first tenth of their total income, in cash or in kind. This was one important mark of their covenant relationship with God. Disobedience in this was a breach of their covenant." In reality, Malachi 3 (which Prince teaches from)is aimed directly at the levitical priests of the day who were corrupt (Mal. 3:3) due in part that they were partial in their interpretation of the law for their own benefit (Mal. 2:9). Furthermore, the "tithe" of the Old testament was not a 10-percent temple tax that a jew gave to their favorite faith-prosperity teacher, and the Mosaic tithe was never given in the form of money -- the tithe of Israel was a food redistribution system alloted to not only the levites, but the poor, the widow, the foreigner, and the orphan (Deut. 14:29). For that matter, the "tither" could sell the tithe and buy "whatever they wanted" as long as they remembered those less fortunate (Deut. 14:26). And the "tither" was commanded to EAT of the tithe with their family at the place the Lord chose. Every seventh and 50th year there was no sowing and reaping of crops, and thus no tithing.
For a book that claims deliverance and freedom, more bad is caused by Derek Prince's theology than good. No nightly readings from the book of Job for Mr. Prince, methinks.
The old covenant has been made obsolete and an new one has been made -- that we believers are made holy by the blood of Jesus once and for all time (Hebrews 10:8-10). And for the record, Jesus preached that "I am the truth, the way and the life, no one comes to Father except through me" -- a message that was preached to Israel, first and foremost. Christ nailed fear, laws, and curses to the cross. We can now come before the throne boldly, weather we are sick or healthy, rich or poor, prosperity teacher or lowly dicernment advocate.

Blessings Or Curse. I first heard parts of this book on Derek Princes radio program, and loved it! Now after reading this book and sharing it with many of our church members it has changed lives!!!!! Many who had physical problems and mental health issues could never figure out where they came from. After they read this book, it was like a light came on. Though I preached on this subject many times. Derek's book truly touched the hearts of many! Simple, yet scriptural and factual reading. I'd recommended it to anyone who wants to truly grow in Christ! Another great book of Derek's is the "SPIRIT FILLED BELIEVERS'S HAND BOOK!
