 | Vischer is Brilliant! May 18, 2010 |
Both of these DVD's are absolutely delightful! As with Veggie Tales, Vischer has a definite cast of comical, yet loveable characters that both kids and adults will adore. The information on the DVD's both educates and entertains, and will be a staple in your household for years to come.
I adored these! I've been a fan of Veggie Tales for years, but What's In The Bible is not a VeggieTales knock off, it's definitely a stand alone series. And it's wonderful! Vischer is amazing. When it comes to taking something hard for kids to understand and creating something that is so much fun and entertaining, Vischer is pure genius.
These DVD's have been watched over and over since they arrived at my home, and they are still funny and still entertaining. I don't think I could even name a favorite character - they are all plain awesome!
This is an amazing series that teaches a wonderful message at the same time entertains.
| | | | IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY HOW GREAT THIS DVD IS May 15, 2010 |
While at our Christian book store this DVD was playing in the children's section. My 8 and 9 year olds were memorized right away. A little while later when I was ready to leave they begged and pleaded to stay until the movie was over. That really caught my attendion. I picked up one of the DVD's to see what it was they were watching and so very pleased to see it was from the maker of Veggie Tales. I watched some of the DVD with them and decided after 3-4 minutes this was really, really good! I bought it and my girls watched it in the van on the way home. It was very frustrating to hear them watching it because I could hear most of it and really wanted to see it for myself. We watched again when we got home. And about another 20 times since :o) We even find ourselves singing or humming the theme song during the day. I don't want to spoil any of the movie so I will just say, Great job Phil Vischer!!! Thank-you for using your God given talent to teach children important true facts of the Bible in a way they will understand and ALWAYS remember. This DVD actually gives the kids (and adults) "meat" to digest instead of just "milk". I teach the King's Kids (Children's Church) every Sunday. I look for ways to teach the children that God has trusted me with deep truths. I like my kids to get "meat" that will last them the rest of their lives. We are going to watch this DVD during King's Kids time. I am preparing lessons to go along with what we watch. After we are done I have bought each of my King's Kids this DVD to take home. I have learned several things from this DVD. It will be a great tool to send into the homes of these kids especially my kids that come from non-christian homes. I can't wait to see how God is going to use these DVDs!! After all His Word will not return void. Oh by the way the second may even be a little better than the first DVD (if that is possible) and the King's Kids will be getting that one to take home too. Hurry up with number 3 Phil. | | | | What's in the Bible? Apr 12, 2010 |
Recently, I had the opportunity to review the new children's series What's in the Bible? from the one and only Phil Vischer, creator of VeggieTales. Tyndale House is partnering with Vischer to produce and promote the series that will go through the Bible, book by book, to help teach children...well, What's in the Bible.
My husband and I watched the first two episodes and enjoyed the show immensely. It is a combination of live action, animation, and puppets. The content is great, and although there are bound to be some theological differences in how the information is presented, I felt that overall, the series was remarkably well done. Vischer doesn't water down the information, but rather seeks to present the whole truth to children, teaching them the meaning of big church words thrown around so casually by many believers (e.g. covenant, redemption, canon). One of my favorite segments is titled A Pirate's Guide to Church History; I thought this particular bit was an especially important idea because church history is a generally untouched subject, and yet it is so critical to understand. Even in the first two episodes, Vischer manages to delve into difficult and sticky topics like original sin and the canonization of the Bible.
And of course, you can expect the series to be both serious and funny, engaging not just your children but most likely the whole family. | | | | Good new series Mar 31, 2010 |
| I find it sad that so many Christians today don't really know very much about the Bible. It's most likely because from the time we're kids, so much of our entertainment and free time is spent with other pursuits. That's what's so great about these videos. My kids can watch them and be entertained, all the while learning about the most important book there is. And you know what? I even learned a thing or two while watching What's in the Bible. I'm definitely not any kind of Bible scholar, but since these DVD's are aimed at kids, I thought it would be filled with the really simple stuff that any Christian adult should know. And a lot of it is that, but there are gems in there that were things I didn't already know. These DVD's are a great resource for both learning and entertainment. My kids loved all the different characters, and it never got boring because it bounced around from information to songs, with funny stuff sprinkled all throughout. If your kids like Veggie Tales, they'll love this new DVD series from Phil Vischer. | | | | Enjoyed these! Mar 30, 2010 |
We love Veggies Tales in our home so when I saw that the creator of Veggie Tales had made a new DVD series called What's in the Bible, I was excited!
Phil Vischer presents What's in the Bible accompanied by a mix of brightly colored puppets, animation, and catchy tunes, with some real children thrown in. The Series covers how we get the Bible and then takes you on a journey through each book of the Bible. Each episode/DVD addresses a different book of the Bible.
In Episode One, In The Beginning, the characters tackle three questions:
What is the Bible? Who wrote the Bible? What's Genesis about?
Vischer shows his belief that young children have an intellectual capacity by presenting alongside his co-stars, more complex topics historically and theologically than your typical children's DVD. In these DVD's your children will be exposed to orthodox narrative theology, Christian history, and some of the challenging questions that we all ask of faith. For instance one of the explanations given in Episode One addresses why different Bibles have a different number of books such as the Catholic Bible compared to the Holy Bible.
The DVD's held the attention of our younger children ages 3-8 but our older children ages 10-13 (who will still watch a Veggie Tales DVD and laugh at the humor) felt these DVD's were too young for them even though some of the topics taught and addressed would normally be more for their age.
My only complaint would be that you have to buy a new DVD for each book or two of the Bible and that can get costly!
A huge thank you to Tyndale Publishing for sending us DVD 1 & 2 to review. | | | Write your own review about In The Beginning (Whats In The Bible? V1)
