I would just like to say how Amazing the Amplified Bible is I have a Hardback one a Comparative Study Bible that has one in it also My Newest is a Zondervan Kjv/Amp Parallel Bible and by the way the parallel one is My favorite so anyone who wants a Great Bible should get a Amplified Bible take and God bless.

THIS is NOT Leather Feb 21, 2007
This says leather bound, when it is actually bonded leather (thin leather attached to paper) and not genuine leather binding. I wrote this site and they acknowledged the mistake but I see it has not been corrected. This is an exceptional translation, and not a bad price for even bonded leather but I just wanted others to be aware of what they were getting when ordering it.
no excuse Jan 17, 2007
Read the Amplified version cautiously. Often the word, or worse, the concept, is obscured even distorted i.e., Job 19:26 "...after my skin, even this body, has been destroyed, then from my flesh (then AMP interjects in brackets---["or without it"]) I shall see God." HELLO!!? "or without it"?? As you can see an entire doctrinal, theological argument arises by AMP's antithesis of the 1611 KJV meaning. AMP should not be used by the beginner bible student and even for the seasoned seeker of God's truth, I recommend the KJV/AMP parallel.
Also the print job needs to be addressed. Heads up to consumers, and book and bible lovers as Zondervan publisher has disappointed their customer with the Amplified Bible printed paperback. For $15/$12.98 there's no excuse on their part for distributing such poorly-printed material to those who've supported their publishing house through the years. From cheap newsprint paper, to most pages warped at center by the poor-quality glue binding, to erratic margins printed at times at paper's edge rendered through haphazard printing and cutting, Zondervan accepting this poor level of printing is somewhat a surprise and certainly a disappointment. You have to break the book back in order to read the words toward the center and in doing so, several pages tore from the binding in the first hour of use.
For everyone considering purchasing the Amplified Bible, go ahead, spend the extra $ and get the leather bound or as I mentioned above, the KJV/AMP parallel.
Amplified Bible Jan 16, 2007
Great reference to other Bibles. Amplified words are in parenthesis to help with understanding the context of verses.
I like the idea... Dec 22, 2006
I like the idea of getting different translations of the Hebrew, Latin, and Greek words (example, word ____ was translated into heaven, but the amplified bible explains that the meaning is really heaven/among the stars/in the clouds, etc, so you get the full understanding of the passage).
I like the idea, though I don't know how it really changes the meaning of the text. But if you are looking to pick and probe further into your reading, this is a helpful translation.
Why Not a Primary Bible? Dec 17, 2006
I like this best as a Primary Bible. Not only is it very accurate, it forces you to slow down and really soak in the Word of God, making it much easier to meditate on God's Word day and night. I think the problem with our Christian culture is that we want everything to be easy, and we don't want to have to take our time when we could just quickly read through God's Word and shut The Book for the day. With the Amplified, I like that you're forced to really "chew" on it and have to put a little thought into it. It's certainly no worse than any of the other "primary" Bibles out there. It's still a translation of the originals. I use it with my little girls (7,6, and 3)for Cathechism verses as well and then we talk about the verses. My 2nd choice is the ESV. I'm a "literal" kind of girl : ). Buy it-try it. If you don't like it, pass it along to someone you think might.
